Search Engine Optimisation - How do search engines find my site?
Search engines index millions of websites and now you want to be included. Right? I will run through basic techniques that almost guarantee that you will get indexed.
Firstly most search engines have submission pages. Most are free but you may find some that you need to pay. These submission pages don't speculate a particular time frame that your site will be indexed. Your site will be put on the stack and indexed when it is reached.
Secondly and most importantly build incomming links from other theme related websites. This allows the search engine spiders a pathway to your website. The more pathways the greater chance that your site will be indexed and updated by search engines promptly. In upcomming posts I will run through incomming links in greater depth. But for now this will do.
Thirdly, Submit your site to major website directories such as: DMOZ, Yahoo! etc... But prepare to pay a premium if you want your site listed in the directory in the shortest amount of time. I will go through the major directories and how to submit your site to them in upcomming post.
But for now thats it. Following one of these steps will help your site to be found by search engines. Following more than one step would almost ensure that you will be found reletively quickly.
Over and out
